Jon Jones goes in-depth on the Bellator heavyweight grand prix fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Chael Sonnen.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones hasn’t done a ton of interviews lately, but he recently did a very interesting one with Russian outlet Allow Me To Interrupt. In it, he gives his thoughts on Daniel Cormier, Francis Ngannou, and a host of others. But he saved his best analysis for the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Chael Sonnen.

Jones, who has faced and beaten Sonnen before, was asked if he was a fan of the Emelianenko brothers. He answered in the affirmative, and said that both Fedor and Aleksander were big influences. He was then asked who is more likely to be bothered by the trash talking of their opponent, Fedor or Khabib Nurmagomedov? As Jones is wont to do, he gave a blunt assessment of the trash talk that Chael and Conor McGregor use:

“I think Chael Sonnen is the worst trash talker. Just because a lot of the stuff he says is gibberish. Conor McGregor, when he talks trash there’s a lot of truth behind what he’s saying. I think Khabib will be under more pressure. Just because, he has a very dangerous fighter who usually backs up what he says. Where Chael Sonnen is known to talk trash and lose.”

He is then asked about the Fedor vs. Chael fight specifically, and what he advice he would give Fedor:

“I think Fedor wins this fight all over. On the ground and on the feet. He’s just the better fighter. He has great jiu jitsu, better strikings. He’s the better all-around fighter. If I was going to give Fedor any advice, it would be to work on his guillotine. Because Chael Sonnen is gonna shot, and Chael Sonnen always shoots with his head on the same side. So work that guillotine, and work your triangles. I would also encourage Fedor to work on his get-up, so he’s not held down. And work on his cardio. Very important.”

Fedor and Chael will face off on October 13th at Bellator 208.
