MANILA - Longest reigning Filipino champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes pulled off an impressive victory in front of American fight fans by stopping his Argentinean challenger Juan Carlos Reveco in 7 rounds.

Nietes methodically took Reveco apart, using his 1-2 combo to break down his challenger’s defense early in the supporting bout of HBO’s “Super Fly 2” in Inglewood, California.

This wore down Reveco and by the time he got hit with a stinging right to the face near the end of the sixth frame it was clear that the Argentinean was in a world of hurt.

Nietes didn’t waste time in the following round. He crowded Reveco with a flurry of body shots before unleashing a left uppercut that sent challenger tumbling down the canvas.

Reveco was able to beat the count but was still on wobbly knees, prompting his corner men to throw in the towel.

The referee awarded the victory to Nietes 53 seconds into the seventh round.

According to CompuBox, Nietes landed 100 of 407 punches, while Reveco only connected on 40 of his 318 punches.

It was win number 41 for Nietes, who is looking to land a more lucrative bout against the protagonists of the Super Fly 2 card.

The main event features Srisaket Sor Rungvisai's WBC super flyweight title defense against former champion Juan Francisco Estrada.

Reveco, a former 2-time world champion, went down to his 4th professional defeat in 43 bouts.

Nietes won the crown by out-pointing Thailand’s Komgrich Nantapech (23-5, 15 KOs) on April 29 in Cebu City. The 35-year-old, a former WBO light flyweight and WBO minimum weight champion, hasn’t lost since his 10-round split decision loss to Angky Angkotta in September 2004.
